In some communities in
Ilfracombe & North Devon
up to 4 in every 10 children
are now living in poverty. (IMD)
In the UK, CHILD POVERTY is officially defined as a child living in a household with an income below 60% of the national median income.
In Ilfracombe, deprivation data shows a higher level of child poverty compared with most of England. About 4 out of 10 children in Ilfracombe are living in poverty, driven by low wages, insecure housing and high living costs in the town’s most deprived neighbourhoods (based on local Index of Multiple Deprivation analysis) these rates are also among the highest in Northern Devon. (One Northern Devon)
There are small pockets of similar child poverty and deprivation rates across North Devon, and our Baby Bank take and fulfil referrals from professionals supporting these families from across this coastal area, from Lynton to Ilfracombe, Barnstaple to Bideford, and those moving from these areas and living in temporary and emergency housing within the town of Ilfracombe too.
Any form of support for our project is always very welcome.
Thank you

The baby bank is run & supported by local volunteers who believe in the positive effect of recycling & re-gifting all baby & child essentials to anyone who feels this would benefit their family.
We provide these essentials completely free of charge.
We collect donations of new and nearly-new clothes & equipment for children aged 0-5 years old, and re-gift these to families who would welcome this support. We often have clothes for older children aged 5-14 years too.
Donations of clothes, prams, highchairs, smaller toys, books, cribs & cot-beds, bedding and baby baths are all greatly appreciated.
The Baby Bank can gift nappies and wipes if we have them available.
We are also Community Partners with The Hygiene Bank.
We are not able to supply formula milk or food items.
If your baby is formula fed, and you are finding it difficult to have a stock at home, please contact your midwife or health visitor.
